Frequently Asked Questions

+ How much do you charge?

Every client's needs are slightly different. I work to a fixed fee for each phase of the design process, based on your specific needs. All fees will be clearly agreed upfront. If you'd like to know more please get in touch via my Contact form and we'll go from there.

+ Do you provide a full interior or garden design package?

No, I believe the most successful and authentic interiors and gardens can be designed, planned and created by the people who live in them. I’m here to help you be your own designer and create a house or garden that’s meaningful and unique to you. I’m the middle ground between a designer, and doing it yourself. A Design Consultant, if you like.

With me you will learn the skills to plan and create your own project, and we'll work on the design together at the same time. I'll give as much design advice as you need so that you feel fully confident to manage the entire project. I'll be with you when you need me.

+ I’m half way through a project and I’m stuck. Can you help?

Yes, absolutely. Lots of my clients come to me having started a project, an extension, a garden border, or a refurb, and have lost confidence along the way. Maybe you've dived in but need a stronger strategy before you continue, maybe the structure is there but the character needs work. It’s what I love to do. I can guide you through to the finish line.

+ Will you recommend a builder or landscaper?

No. Your relationship with your builder or landscaper is essential, you are much better placed to choose a contractor who you like and with whom you will enjoy working. But I can look over the plans before you agree to the quotation, to help you create a plan which is completely tailored to your needs.

+ Do you offer trade discounts on furniture?

No. Buying furniture on trade discount through a designer is, in my opinion, not in your best interest. You need to be able to walk into a retail showroom, try the furniture, sit on it, feel the fabrics. You need to be in control of what you order, how much you spend, and when it’s delivered. And if things aren’t right and you’re not happy with your purchase, you need to be able to return the item at your convenience.

+ Do you take commission?

No. I am here to guide and teach you how to do this for yourself. I charge a clear, set fee. Any purchases you make will be directly between you and the retailer or you and your contractor. Simple.

+ Can I choose which stages of the Design process I work with you?

Yes, within reason. The inital work to create a Design Analysis and strategy is essential, and the process is structured in phases because they work in that order, but if you're confident at later tasks then you can pick and choose.

+ What if I don’t like what you suggest?

You decide what works best for you and your life. You do the choosing, I will simply guide you to what works together and how to achieve your aim. You will grow in confidence throughout the process, and gain an understanding of successful design so that working with me will expand your horizons to make braver, more discerning choices.

+ Will you work within my budget?

The only person making purchases will be you. I fully and painfully understand how stressful it can be to be working within a budget and have another party pushing to spend more. Quite the reverse, I can help you strategically and realistically budget for your project before you start.

+ What if I run out of budget halfway, or if it won’t stretch?

This is such a personal issue and everyone’s response is subjective. Personally I would advise you to stop immediately to regroup. The repercussions of overspending are painful and long-lasting and I would never recommend spending more than you can afford.

+ Will you be involved throughout my entire project?

Yes and No. The best way I can help you is in short bursts, with you working on your own in between. So for example we might spend two mornings working on finding your style, spaced over a week. Then another three mornings on planning and sourcing, over a couple of weeks. I’ll give you things to work on in between, and will support you with what comes less naturally. You’ll learn so much that you won’t want me there full time, but I will support and guide at whichever stage you need.

+ I believe that you are your own best Interior Designer and Project Co-Ordinator:

  • Your house is about what you and your family need and want
  • You choose how to spend your money
  • You choose when to start and how long to take
  • You choose which tradespeople you like to work with
  • If you don’t like your purchase, you choose to return it.

I take the uncertainty out of the process and help you confidently design, plan and implement a cohesive, super-stylish look, completely authentic to you.
